Let's say my company is widget incorporated and our FB page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/widget-inc/1311355
Is there a way to "graduate" to just http://www.facebook.com/pages/widget-inc
without all those numbers at the end?

Easy one mate - just go to your FB page, click on edit info and the 3rd item down is called username.
Click on that and generate whatever username you want ie facebook.com/widget-inc

My mobile number is somehow on other peoples lists, however I never added it to Facebook, and never went through the above procedure
The other option is this :-What people seem to be doing is importing their smartphone contact list through a Facebook app. Hence if my number, which I don't want on Facebook, is in any friends phone, then bingo, it can be imported.
